CANTINE SCOLAIRE, IGNY

IGNY

The construction of the new canteen of the school group of Joliot-Curie and Charles Perrault schools is the first phase of an ambitious operation which aims to create a mixed facility open to a large public in the heart of a district undergoing full renewal. Eventually, the building will house a multi-activity room upstairs.

Located at the back of the plot in place of the current public square, the new equipment is deployed horizontally while preserving the site's majestic trees. The facades are clad in camel-coloured metal and largely glazed. The building has two main entrances. One oriented directly towards the school group and the other towards rue Prosper Alfaric, in anticipation of the opening of the equipment to a public outside the school group. At the back of the plot are located the logistical accesses, including a specific entrance for the staff. These different entrances are marked by higher volumes which break the horizontality of the building and give volume to the reception halls.

The treatment of the outdoor facilities aims to highlight the plant heritage of the site. The impact of technical and logistical access is limited. The pedestrian paths are adapted to the topography of the land and offer routes that wind between the trees and the landscaping while being passable by people with reduced mobility.

The interior spaces follow a simple and functional organization, which takes into account the heavy operating constraints of this type of program. The dining rooms unfold along the fully glazed facades and take full advantage of the green setting and abundant natural light. These spaces are mostly treated in soft honey tone hues and a colorful and playful treatment of the false ceilings contributes to creating an environment suitable for children. The design of the galley responds to practical but also ergonomic concerns. The workspaces are naturally lit: they are above all living spaces.

The structural and technical arrangements have been made to eventually allow the creation of a multi-activity room of around 800m2 with a wooden structure upstairs.
